2011 Elections

Here is the list of the candidates standing in the 2011 local elections in the Lincoln constituency.

City of Lincoln Council Candidates

Charly Harding Price

Abbey Ward – Charly Harding Price

Charlotte Harding-Price has lived in Lincoln since she returned from the Falkland Islands in 1997.  Having grown up in Lincoln she has seen how the city has developed and in particular how Abbey Ward has become a place where education is at the heart of local life.  Now working as a PA she believes that everyone should have the opportunity to be a productive member of society.  Standing for Abbey Ward she hopes to be able to represent people and work towards them having better local facilities for both young and old alike, from clean pleasant places for the young to play and older people to enjoy their life, to secure sustainable green housing to live in.  Abbey Ward is blighted by the problems with parking and this has to be addressed.  Charlotte welcomes the opportunity to speak up for the people of Abbey Ward.

Jan Charters

Birchwood Ward – Jan Charters

Jan has a love of children born of an education from Coventry, as a child. to Leeds as a university student and Oxford University as a mentor. She moved throughout the country developing education standards and children in her care from Lancashire to Leicestershire, from Buckinghamshire to Yorkshire eventually retiring as a Headteacher of a highly commended Technology College. She is a life long Liberal Democrat with a passionate interest in Children – their education, development and support. Now in Lincoln she has much to offer the community, based on her experiences as a true carer of Children, our most valued asset. She is also very approachable!

Lynn Pepper

Boultham Ward – Lynn Pepper

Lynn was born in Boston, before moving to Lincoln in 1976 after meeting her future husband, Denis, who she married in 1980. She has a son, Ross who was born in 1986.

She currently works at Sainsbury’s Supermarket on Tritton Road in Lincoln as a Sales Assistant.

Lynn believes the environment is the key issue in today’s world. She would like to see an enhancement of green spaces in Lincoln and investment in greener projects in the city.

She also believes that Lincoln is very congested and would like to see further developments to reduce the traffic in the city, and would push for this if elected.

Lynn believes there is too much emphasis on short term projects and would like to see long term planning for the development of Lincoln.

Lynn thinks it is important for the residents of Boultham Ward to be put first!

Charles Shaw

Carholme Ward – Charles Shaw

CHARLES W SHAW is the opposition in Carholme Ward having missed victory by only 7 (Seven) votes in 2010.  Married with three grown up children, following careers in Youth and Community Services, Insurance and Corporate Secretaryship, Charles’ priorities are to change the style of Councillor response. In the West End and St Georges residents have had their concerns and emotions played about with by Labour whipping up fears about the Commons, the Grandstand and development only so that they  can then ‘rescue’ them at the last minute. This is an abuse of residents and avoids  having to deal with the serious issues of housing, flood prevention and litter not to mention buses and community facilities. Ross Pepepr

Castle Ward – Ross Pepper

Ross was born and brought up in Lincoln. He attended St Peter and St Paul’s High School in the city and graduated from Lincoln University with a degree in International Relations. He is just about to start a new role as an Optical Assistant at a well-known High Street Optician after working in retail since graduating in 2007. He is the current Chair of Lincoln Liberal Democrats.

Living in Lincoln all his life, Ross has seen many changes for both the better and worse, but believes there should be a long term plan to improve this great and historic city.

He believes the city has been let down by a lack of action to tackle the huge congestion problem that faces the city.

He passionately believes in public transport and will fight to restore the evening bus route that was axed in April by the Conservative dominated County Council and Stagecoach leaving many residents stranded in the evenings.

He will put the voices and concerns of the residents of Castle Ward to the fore!

David Harding Price

Glebe Ward – David Harding Price

David Harding-Price came to Lincoln in 1960 as a toddler and has a long association with the city as a nurse, charity worker, union steward and family man.  He has lived in Glebe ward since 1998.  He has represented nurses now believing it is time for him to speak up for the residents of Glebe Ward.  “The time”, he says, “has come for local people to have new local services run by local people and for those services to truly meet the needs of local people and not pander to old dogmas.”  Safer streets, cleaning open spaces and better housing are on his agenda if elected.  He will push for better local facilities for people from St. Giles to Glebe Park including places for families to meet and safe areas for youngsters to congregate.   He believes everyone has the right to a better life and a right to be able to work towards a better life.  He hopes to be able to work with the people of Glebe Ward to achieve this aim.

He has had an international career based in world financial centres. He and his wife have lived in many English regions and have contributed to local communities through politics and Charities, raising many thousands of pounds for causes associated with homeless people and children. Jim has been involved in local and national politics from Luton to Leicester, latterly South Yorkshire and now Lincoln. Tim McDonnell-Woods

Minster Ward – Timothy McDonnell-Woods

Tim was born in London before moving with his family to Lincolnshire when he was young. He is currently studying History and Politics at Lincoln University and is President of the University’s History Society.

Tim is standing for Minster ward to be a voice for local residents. He will work tirelessly to assist the local community and fight for their needs in the council chamber.

He is worried about the lack of public transport that runs in the area in the evening and feels local residents are being let down. He will work alongside colleagues to fight for an evening bus service to serve the local community.

Tim also feels passionate about other local provisions and amenities that the community depend on such as library services, leisure facilities and social groups for the young and elderly in the area. He will support local residents to safeguard these services that run at the heart of a community.

Jenny Shaw

Moorland Ward – Jenny Shaw

Jenny is a Public Services worker in Lincoln who feels strongly that the protection of public services, local jobs, community amenities and resident right is essential to instilling and preserving trust in locally elected councilors – being available when you need them, listening to resident voices and sympathetic to constituent needs is essential in having Moorland interests served at Council level.

Jenny is a University graduate who’s lived here for over 10 years, living and working in Lincoln.  I have been through the schools system, out in the job sector, concentrating on local issues, volunteering in education and social welfare here in Lincoln and abroad, as well as watching development and growth influenced by the government and city politics, and effecting local communities.

Jenny feels the Liberal Democrats best represent values of local democracy in their campaigns to protect citizen rights, improve standards, and their steadfast campaign for electoral reform. Jenny believes that the current system does not allow for true representation in councils and campaigns for more influential votes where your vote means more and makes MPs and councilors work harder. “Working in Moorland will mean working together to put Lincolnshire back on the map, and protect jobs and quality of life for Lincoln’s constituents whilst doing so.”

Heather Cullen

Park Ward – Heather Cullen

A Lincolnshire Yellowbelly, Heather attended Bishop Grosseteste and the University of Lincoln and lives in Park ward with her husband and daughter.

Heather works part time in adult social care and is also very active within her local community, particularly Sure Start and the residents’ group Maze Matters.

She served as a Park councillor from 2004-2007 and is eager to serve her community again.

Heather’s priorities for the area are: community cohesion – bringing together diverse communities, accessible and inspiring education and leisure facilities for all, a sensitive and sustainable transport infrastructure and effective support for the most vulnerable people in society.
She is confident, friendly, intelligent and hard working individual who has and will work hard for the community around her.

North Kesteven District Council Candidates

Tony Richardson

Bracebridge Heath and Waddington East Ward – Tony Richardson

I live with my wife and youngest daughter, in North Kesteven, and have been here for 38 years. I have 12 years council experience.
As a Liberal Democrat, I believe in good public transport, including the “rural areas” out of the city,
Conservation and policies that protect the environment.
New developments in Waddington in respect of environmentally friendly housing deserve support, though there is concern at the scale of conventional development in the area.
I was very encouraged by the support that you gave me two years ago when I stood as your county council candidate. Many will remember my concerns at the time regarding the issues surrounding the Eastern and Southern Bypasses. Residents still have concerns where the still do not know how they will be affected or when.
The former St John’s Hospital site is still a cause for concern, where the listed building is deteriorating.
I have concerns about so called factory farming, such as the proposed “super dairy”. Currently plans have been withdrawn, but could return in a different form.
